Urban Transportation Project

Providing a daily lifeline to community activitie for residents with developmental disabilities, URI's Urban Transportation Project (UTP) offers a network of specially equipped and staffed vans serving some 200 passengers a day in Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. More than 30 New York City agencies utilize the UTP, including United Cerebal Palsy, Goodwill Industries, Association for the Help of Retarded Children and the Young Adult Institute.

The Urban Transportation Project (UTP) began operating in 1987 for the administration of transportation services in New York City for individuals diagnosed with MR/DD who are eligible for Chapter 620 funding.

Located in the East New York section of Brooklyn, UTP is responsible for the daily operation of transportation services for approximately 200 adults, as well as for the quality assurance monitoring and evaluation of the transportation vendors, that transport consumers within all the boroughs with the exception of Staten Island.

UTP staffing includes the Transportation Manager, Scheduling Coordinator, and two clerical employees.

UTP is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD).

For information on transportation eligibility and availability for a developmentally disabled consumer, please contact Program Manager at UTP directly at (718) 922-9650.
