About URI

The Urban Resource Institute (URI) was established in 1980 to identify problems impacting the lives of minority residents of New York City and to assist in their resolution.

URI's Programs

  • Provide shelter to families torn by violence
  • Fight chronic joblessness among persons with disability
  • Relocate persons with mental retardation from institutions to group residences in the community
  • Manage a transportation lifeline for hundreds of persons with severe disabilities
  • Offer outpatient treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction
  • Serve as sites for special research and evaluation projects to help identify problems and find solutions.

Research : Advocacy : Treatment

URI fulfills its mission through research, client advocacy, and the delivery of vital human services. A multi-cultural, not-for profit agency dedicated to empowering inner city residents,URI is incorporated in New York State as a multi-service resource and research corporation.

Serving The Most Neglected

Today, after more than three decades of growth, URI effectively deliver a broad range of health and human services to some of the city's most severely neglected communities.

Services delivered by the Urban Resource Institute not only meet the most basic needs of customers, but help them gain the skills and strength to move beyond their disabilities and dependencies.
